Quinn and Chance

Here are my boys - Quinn is the roan, and Chance is the black bay. This is the first day I turned them out at our place when we moved in 4 years ago, and I love this photo because they were, and still are, so happy to have the space to run.

My passion for horses came to light when I was 5, and I always managed to find a way to be around them. I've learned some of the most important lessons in my life from horses. After a fairly successful career as a trainer, I left my equestrian life in my 20's for an education, then work and family, and I was a 'has been' in the realm of horses.

I got Quinn as a weanling in 2002, and I'm grateful for him every day. He is a ham, and a muddy mess, but he has a heart of gold and will do anything for me. Chance came to me from my brother; and he brought the two of us closer. I rode Chance until I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my daughter (she's almost 8 now), with never an incident. I can put my daughter on either of these horses now and have no worries. These boys have been partners for almost ten years.

I was lost, and these boys have brought me back home. I can rely on them to help me find clarity, to remember who I am, and to remind me that I have the strength to move forward no matter what the obstacle. At 45, with all my flaws and shortcomings, they help me remember that I am the best I've ever been, and I'm only getting better. They help me be the woman I want my daughter to learn from.

Thanks for sharing all the heartwarming stories, and your beautiful art.

Getting Ready for the Helsinki International Porsche Horse Show

So exciting! This year the nannasalmi collection can
22. - 25.10.2015.

Going to a horse show is not all about watching the
shows, show jumping or dressage... It´s also about sensing the ambiance,
smelling the horses and the dust of the arena, meeting friends and -
shopping!

We are glad to be apart of your shopping experience in HIHPS 2015!
You will also have a rare possibility to meet the designer Nanna Salmi in person.

Have you ever thought how much work there is before the expo opens?
A lot!

We don´t have heavy stuff to carry. We don´t have tens of harnesses,
saddles, riding boots or hoofpicks and brushes to be put on the shelves.
Those exhibitors work really hard for days before and after the show.

We have these delicate, little things.

On the top of that there are many little details to be taken care
so that your shopping experience would be perfect!

Welcome to see the original nannasalmi collection "live"
and to meet the designer. She will be glad
to help you to choose the design made with your own
horse´s hair.

Tervetuloa tutustumaan aitoon ja alkuperäiseen
nannasalmi kokoelmaan Helsingissä
22. - 25.10.2015

Voit tavata suunnittelija Nanna Salmen henkilökohtaisesti ja
valita oman korusi ja nauhamallin hänen avustuksellaan.

Sydämellisesti tervetuloa!

She Did It Again - Tracey Venter and her Black Mare

nannasalmi sponsored
Inspections this year again.

The ring Artema was to be given to the owner of
the champion mare in Great Britain 2015.

Must say it was not a surprise to learn that Tracey Venter
got a new item to her collection of nannasalmi horsehair jewellery...
Her Friesians are all quite amazing!

This year she earned it with this beautiful mare, Doutzen.

Congratulations Tracey and Doutzen!

"Our 2nd premie Ster and Champion Mare on her way to the highest score (79)
achieved in an IBOP in the UK to date", Tracey wrote in Facebook.

"She's the third offspring of her Brandus mother (Stam 1) we have worked with.
The first was Wouter who achieved Ster in 2012, the next was Berber who scored 77.5
points in the IBOP and gained Kroon and overall champion in 2014.
This mare was very weak through her back when we bought her over from NL
and benefited from 2 years running with the herd before I backed
her as a 5yo last spring.

She has been a absolute delight to work with and I was delighted my views
on her ability under saddle were recognized by the inspectors on Monday.
She is well and truly part of the team here and hopefully I'll find some time
to compete her for a few years before we choose
a suitable stallion for her", Tracey writes.

You can read more about Doutzen here: www.blackhorses.co.uk

Sandy Kitching has taken these pictures of Doutzen. More of her work

Tracey will have the ring Artema woven with Doutzen´s hair.
Look, what she got last year!

Anja - The Black Friesian Beauty

Next year we have to choose the prize carefully - there is a risk
that she wins again, don´t you think? Take a look through the collection
and make your suggestion for the next year´s prize!

One more time: Congratulations Tracey and Doutzen!

Perfect Finnhorse - Kullannuppu

This week has been an official Finnhorse week and today,
6.9.2015, it is a Finnhorse Day.

"The Finnhorse or Finnish Horse (Finnish: Suomenhevonen, literally "horse of Finland")
is a horse breed with both riding horse and draught horse influences and characteristics,
and is the only breed developed fully in Finland.
In English it is sometimes called the Finnish Universal, as the Finns consider the breed
capable of fulfilling all of Finland's horse needs, including agricultural and
forestry work, harness racing and riding (of all kind).
In 2007, the breed was declared the official national horse breed of Finland."

The breed standard defines the Finnhorse as a multi-purpose horse of average height,
and sturdy conformation. The ideal Finnhorse is easy-to-handle, versatile, and combines
strength, agility, speed and endurance. Finnhorses are lively, with both a reliable and alert temperament. The breed standard encourages a horse that is "honest and sincere";
eager to cooperate with humans, obedient, and willing to work.
They are hardy with good endurance, robust health, and are generally long-lived.
-wikipedia-

This mare equates the breed description perfectly.
May we introduce the Finnhorse Kullannuppu - Golden Bud
and her master Heikki Mikola from Turku.

City horse Kullannuppu is only 12 years old but for half of her life she
has been walked in the City. Almost every day Heikki and Kullannuppu
go for city rides, no matter if it was raining, snowing or freezing.
People love them and Kullannuppu has plenty of friends
in the city.

Heikki and Kullannuppu

These two have a perfect understanding, trust and a strong bond
between them. It only comes with time and patience.

With a Finnhorse it is more than possible - if the human is wise enough!

Have a great autumn and a wonderful Finnhorseday, Kullannuppu and Heikki!
Thank you so much for letting us to publish these wonderful photos.

We wish you many happy years together.

For our Finnish readers:
In APU Magazine 31 / 2015 you can read more about Heikki and Kullannuppu

PLEASE REMEMBER!
Riding in the city can be very dangerous to you, your horse or the others in the streets.
The horse - and you - has to be absolutely trustable,
very well trained and used to all kinds of noises and distractions, also
the unexpected ones.
Always use a hat and a safety vest when riding - where ever.
